The Bridge

Today's project (4/19): Illustrate connection in a photograph today.

A connection... not too bad, right?

Once again, I'm at the mall. Nice how the mall provided me with some shots I could use for the assignments.

This is the connecting bridge that connects the main half of the mall with the Barnes and Noble, The Landmark theater, and a cafe that are located across the street.

Horses In Motion

Today's project (4/18): Illustrate motion in a photograph today.

I wasn't really in the mood to really figuring out what I can take a picture of today. I tried some samples, but I just wasn't feeling them.

This is a shot of live horse racing from Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, Ca. I was in the infield of the race track when I took this shot.

The Dark Dining Room

Today's project (4/17): Make a low-key photograph today.

I didn't know what to make of this assignment. Low-key? At first I thought it was from a low angle. Nope. It's not. A low-key is similar to a low contrast photo, expect the difference is you use lower tones to set a dramatic feel to the photo.

This photo was from my friend's new restaurant that's opening very soon. I went for a visit when they just placed the dining tables and chairs.

The Waterfall and I

Today's project (4/16): Make a photograph that features you in some way.

In a way, I didn't want to take a self portrait of myself today. Especially since I'm not feeling all that well.

So once again, I went back into my collection. I pulled this one up. It's from where I went to Salem, Or. The waterfall is in Silver Falls State Park, just outside Salem.

Techy Tickets

Today's project (4/15): Illustrate something technological in a photograph today.

I decided to go to the mall for this one. I went after work since it's so close by.

Technology has advanced so far, that you can now buy movie tickets from small kiosks like these four. No need to wait in line for a teller.

Kitchen Floor

Today's project (4/14): Make a photograph that features repeating patterns.

There's not much for today's project. I used a weird angle to capture the brightness from the kitchen window. I tried keeping it as straight as possible.

Contrasting Bridge

Today's project (4/13): Make a high-contrast photograph today.

This assignment wasn't terribly difficult. I wanted to go to a place where there was
some darkness as well as some light. Luckily, I found a place.

This is the bridge over a street that connects two sides of a mall. It was still early morning, so no one was around when I took it. The sun wasn't really out, as it was a cloudy day, but it was still bright. The bridge doesn't have windows on both sides, just on the side I was focusing on. I wanted to also capture the dark inside part of the bridge, where the couches and tables are.

Wooden Sword and Shield

Today's project (4/11): Make a photograph the features a subject made of wood today.

Hmm... trees? No. Everyone was using trees as their subject. A tree *IS* wood... not really made *OF* wood.

I've used these before in another assignment. I really don't have anything else.

I'll say it again... if you have not been to Medieval Times yet... WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! GO!!!

The Center Baby

Today's project (4/10): Make a photograph with a central point of interest today.

I was outside in the backyard, looking for something to shoot, when I came across these lemons. I then noticed the little baby lemon in between two bigger lemons. That's what I focused my shot on.

Bad Running Time

Today's project (4/9): Illustrate time in a photograph today.

These are my Mizuno running shoes. On my running shoes is my running watch. On my watch is 16 minutes and 46 seconds. That's how I've been running 1.5 miles. That's a bad time. I used to be a tad faster than that, but I've been lazy lately. I need to pick it back up and get going.

A Mystical Grid

Today's project (4/8): Make a photograph that features a grid of some sort today.

A grid... a grid. Hmm. I had a couple of things in mind. The floor, the wall... numerous things. But I remembered about something I had that I haven't seen in a long time.

This is my Mystical Castle Chess set. It features a see-through playing grid that sits elevated off the ground by the four corner towers. The pieces are the knights, wizards, a queen, and a king. All have a dragon with them.

I took several shots using different angles. I had narrowed it down to 3, but I had a hard time picking just one. I had a good friend help me out in deciding which one to use.

A Windy Day

Today's project (4/7): Make a low contrast photograph today.

This is something similar to a previous project, when I used a photo of a shark. It scared someone I know when she saw that picture. :-O

Today, though, I didn't use a shark. It came to me rather quick. I looked outside and saw how cloudy today was. It was also very windy.

This photo was taken from my patio looking out. As you can see, the palm tree is blowing through the somewhat strong wind blowing here. I place the palm tree in the corner of the frame so I can capture most of the dark cloudy sky.

The Hall's Shine

Today's project (4/6): Make a photograph of something shiny today.

I actually took this picture yesterday. I was thinking of using it for the "Edges" assignment, but decided to go with the katana.

This is The Walt Disney Concert Hall in Downtown L.A. It is one of the four performance halls of the Los Angeles Music Center Theater Group. It's my sister works. I took this picture after dropping her off at work yesterday.

Katana's Edge

Today's project (4/5): Focus on an edge today and make a photograph.

This photo was taken focusing on the sharp edge of the katana.

View from the Pocket

Today's project (4/4): Make a photograph from an unusual point of view.

This picture was taken using a timer. I simply placed the camera right next to the side pocket of our pool table.

Sword and Shield

Today's project (4/3): Illustrate symmetry in a photograph today.

I was going to cheat again and use a picture I've taken before. Reason being is because I was watching the pre-game of the Dodgers-Giants game on ESPN, and they were actually talking about Dodger Stadium, and how it's the only stadium in the league that has a symmetrical shape.

Obviously I didn't go that route. I was looking around and decided to just try something I have here at home.

I looked up and found my Medieval Times sword and shield. I thought it would be perfect for the assignment. However, I wasn't quite sure if the actual object had to look symmetrical in the photo, or just as long as it was in the picture. I decided to set them up so that they actually showed symmetrical in the image.

If you have not been to Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament, you are missing out. You should DEFINITELY go.

A Symbol Of...

Today's project (4/2): Make a photograph of a symbol today.

I was a little excited this morning when I found out what today's assignment was. I knew it'd be an easy task considering where I was going. I already pictured what I wanted to use for the shot.

As you can see, it's the Los Angeles Dodgers logo. It's a symbol that represents many things; a rich history, greatness, excitement, groundbreaking. If you know the Dodgers, you know what they are.

By the way, the Dodgers lost today's game to the rival San Francisco Giants, 10-0.

My Attractions

Today's project (4/1): Illustrate attraction in a photograph today.

I had to think about this one for a bit. I could have used a couple that I randomly found while I was out and about today, but that would have been creepy.

So this is what I decided to go with. My attraction to these elements contained in the photo. Music, baseball, and video games. This is what I enjoy doing, this is what I love. These are my attractions.

In this photo are Kina Grannis (a beautiful musician), Pantera, The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, The Los Angeles Dodgers, and my Sony PlayStation 3 controller.

Ducks Orange

Today's project (3/31): Make a photograph dominated by the color orange today.

Believe it or not, I totally blanked out on what I should do for this assignment. There are many things that are orange. What I should have done, since I've been taking my camera to work, is taken a picture of our Metro Local buses here in L.A. Why didn't I do that? I have no idea. I'm kicking myself right now.

This is a very old Anaheim Ducks t shirt I have. There's nothing much else to say about it, except that it's orange.
